working out

Life has been good lately. I walked three miles today with no issues and then turned around and did yoga. Just a few months ago I was in the hospital. They barely let me walk while I was in there. In November, I walked over 8.7 miles in one day (the day I volunteered). I am going to try to make that a regular thing. I am shooting for 5 days a week.

Post Hospitalization

I had a pleural effusion. What is that? 2 cups of liquid in my lung. I went to the hospital for a cough and they took a chest x-ray. I was told that it was probably my sinuses and then the xray came back. next thing I knew I was having a ct scan and an IV. Lots of antibiotics later, I received a chest tube. A partially collapsed lung and a scare regarding another surgery and a few days later I was being released minus the chest tube. I still had the cough. A week later, I went to the pulmonologist and he told me it was my sinuses and prescribed medicine. I am actually doing better a few weeks later. He is sending me to a rheumonologist because one of the markers showed a weak positive. The year of health is turning out to suck. I can walk a mile maybe two without a coughing fit and I am tired all of the time. I hope that the year gets better because I would love to run a marathon for my 40th.

bronchitis

Yesterday, I went to the doctor. Apparently, I have bronchitis or something.  A thousand pills a day later and the cough is worse. I am on antibiotics.

Viral Induced Asthma

Well... I have to say that I did not think that I would be writing about this ever in life. Apparently I have viral induced asthma. Basically, I had a cold and developed a hacking cough from it. I feel fine except for the few times I am hacking or cannot breathe. Since it seemed to be getting worse, I went to the doc and she told me that I have An asthmatic reaction to a virus. Now... I thought she was making it up, I was pretty sure that she was trying to get one over on me. But, with some steroids and an inhaler and cough suppression pills, I am starting to feel like a new woman. I was even able to go for a 2.28 mile walk today. It was awesome. Three days in with the meds and I hope that this keeps up.

It has been a while update

It has been a while and it is time for an update. I have been working out (not on a set schedule, but at least a few days every week). I would like to get to a set schedule. We tried a plant based diet for a few weeks and it was good, but it was not sustainable. Although our meat consumption has resumed, it is not at the previous levels. Nor shall it. I am going to train for a half marathon and will hopefully run one in late October or early November.

Day off

Today was a day off on the schedule and I have to say that I rather enjoyed it. My foot was still swollen from dropping a can of Tuna on it on Wednesday. It was almost healed from dropping the can of cream on it a week ago and I hurt it again. When will I ever learn not to drop stuff on it. So excited tomorrow is a run day and it is only for a mile.

Three days in

Today was my first real trial. The reason is that I had to go to work today. I did not want to get up and go out to run. I wanted to stay in bed long enough to sleep until noon. Instead, I got out of bed like many others and then I ran/walked all of the way to the finish line. I made it... I got out of bed and went out and got some exercise. I am actually proud of myself for that. It is very difficult for me to get out of bed so early in the morning.YAY me!

Day two

Today was day two and it involved a walk according to the plan. I should explain that I am following the Jeff Galloway conditioning program. When I follow this plan, I do not get hurt and as I am aging and not getting younger my thought is to go with something that has not hurt me in the past. It is also the Fourth of July which means it is hot outside. I could not believe that the five seconds running out of each minute would have an effect, but it did. Oh wow, it did.

The beginning.. my first steps as a runner.

So... I started running again today. It is my addiction and my release. According to those that have seen me run, I do not really run... I kind of WOG (walk/jog). Yes, I have kind friends and family. Why today? Well about 12ish years ago I quit smoking and started running right around this time of year. In that time, I have run two half marathons.. okay wogged two half marathons. The time is not important suffice to say that I am hoping to wog another one and a marathon to boot. Why am I telling you this? Well, I hope by telling you that it will keep me honest.

I am going to follow Jeff Galloways plan to start the running/conditioning for beginners all the way up to the full marathon plan. Why am I going to do this? Well the short story is that I need to lose weight. The longer/funnier story is that I was at a child's birthday party when I entered the bouncy house. 30-45 seconds of bouncing left me breathless for quite sometime. This is unacceptable especially as my husband (who did not enter the bouncy house) was making fun of me. That shall not stand. Nay Nay. I am only 39 years old. I am not decrepit...yet. A lot of people will start with telling you all about themselves, their goal for their blog, and their goals for the future. Since you are reading this... you have probably realized that I may not be doing that right away. The reason is simple. I do not know what the goals are. here is a list of my current life goals

I would really like to retire earlier than 55/become financially independent so that I can choose when I retire.
I want to travel the world or at least to the countries on my travel list.
I want to become a good canner (I really want to be a master canner, but I am not sure what all that entails).
I want to run an ultra marathon (stretch goal 100 miles)
